'Sexiest woman alive' in Seattle for film festival
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "sexiest woman alive" was in Seattle Thursday night, and Seattle@Nite is here to give you the exclusive rubdown – ah, that is, rundown on all the festivities.
It doesn't get any hotter on a cool, late-spring night in Seattle than at the opening premiere of the Seattle International Film Festival Thursday with actress Jessica Biel floating down a red carpet at The Paramount Theatre. Not that it was lined with snarling paparazzi or throngs of screaming and preening fans, but it was as close as it gets in Seattle to Hollywood.
Actress Jessica Biel at the Paramount Thursday night. (Dan DeLong/P-I)"She's one of those people who in real life is even more beautiful than in photos," said P-I photographer Dan DeLong, one of only a handful of Seattle media folks in attendance to get close and semi-impersonal with the effervescent Biel.
Crowned sexiest woman on the planet by Esquire magazine, Biel was in Seattle for the premiere of the film "The Illusionist," along with director Neil Burger, while producer Michael London was apparently ill and a no-show. London is the producer of at least two movies that Seattle@Nite has seen, "Sideways" and "The Family Stone."
Also in the crowd for the opening, which included a showing of "The Illusionist" and a post-movie party, were a scattering of Seattle notables such as Mayor Greg Nickels and actor Tom Skerritt. Of course, both would probably say they were on hand less to see Biel in the flesh than to support the 32nd year of SIFF, "the largest and most highly attended festival in the U.S. SIFF 2006 brings over 400 films, including 19 world premieres, 41 North American premieres, and 22 U.S. premieres, to Seattle." But you can see in the photos that Nickles was as close as could be to Biel, and it's not known at press time whether he talked to her about the viaduct replacement or his proposed package to fix streets or the new downtown zoning codes.
Nice of SIFF to bring Seattle the premiere of Jessica Biel a day after the city was graced by the historic arrival of Mexican President Vicente Fox. Even if that wasn't on par with a Jessica Biel movie premiere, it was equally well-scripted. Regardless, Seattle at night really is hopping this week going into Memorial Day festivities and Biel continues a run of real star power for the SIFF .
Now since Seattle@Nite really doesn't keep up with "sexiest women alive" categories these days, yet admires them all the same, here's a press release version of Biel's biography:
"Jessica Biel is fast becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses following starring roles in 'Blade: Trinity' with Wesley Snipes, 'Stealth' with Oscar-winner Jamie Fox, 'Elizabethtown' with Orlando Bloom, 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' 'I'll Be Home For Christmas,' 'Summer Catch,' 'Ulee's Gold,' with Peter Fonda and TV's hit show '7th Heaven.'
"She will be seen in several upcoming projects including Irwin Winkler's 'Home of the Brave,' which is currently shooting in Spokane, and stars Samuel L. Jackson and 50 Cent and the upcoming Lee Tamahori film 'Next.'"
